Youth & Education Coordinator - Contract
Parental leave cover until June 2027

Role Purpose

SCIC is looking for a passionate & visionary Youth & Education Coordinator to cover a parental leave until June 2027. This person will engage youth between the ages of 18 - 35 of diverse backgrounds in Saskatchewan to attract, inspire and engage in leadership and global citizenship opportunities both in-person and online. This position plays a key role in empowering youth to assume leadership roles in the community and partnering with existing youth organizations and Indigenous youth to address sustainable development and other global issues. This position also plays a key role in inspiring educators and youth in the classroom via supporting the delivery of Global Citizenship Education (GCE).

Youth Programming Duties (70%)

  • Coordinate delivery of the flagship Youth program called the Generating Momentum Leadership Camp;

  • Coordinate other Youth programming including Youth engagement during International Development Week (IDW), the Global Cafe series, and foster collaborative programming partnerships with youth-led organizations;

  • Coordinate delivery of engagement with Indigenous Youth;

  • Coordinate delivery of the Digital Storytelling Hub;

  • Coordinate cooperation with Youth Leadership structures including the Global Youth Ambassadors Network;

  • Work with partners to provide impactful youth leadership training and engagement opportunities across Saskatchewan at the national level;

Education Programming Duties (25%)

  • Support a network of teachers engaged in GCE in Saskatchewan and coordinate GCE professional development opportunities for current and pre-service teachers; 

  • Promote the use of SCIC’s GCE modules and other appropriate teaching resources including the delivery of classroom workshops;

  • Foster new partnerships to enable expanded reach of GCE in Saskatchewan including the establishment of a virtual educators platform;

  • Work with the Executive Director to maintain good relationships with the Ministry of Education, Provincial school boards, schools, as well as the Faculties of Education at the University of Regina and University of Saskatchewan, and other teacher-education institutions to sustain a supported and successful GCE program.

Other Duties (5%)

  • Ensure SCIC’s development principles, values, and crosscutting themes (gender equality, human rights, environmental sustainability and innovation) are integrated into the Councils’ Youth and Education Programming activities;

  • Establish mechanisms for regular partner feedback about programme activities and giving partners visibility as changemakers;

  • Ensure appropriate quantitative and qualitative evaluation data is collected on all Youth and Education programs and events;

  • Give appropriate visibility to Youth and Education activities as part of SCIC outreach platforms;

  • Work within budget and deliverable guidelines as outlined by funding agreements and as directed by the Executive Director;

  • Participate in staff meetings and program planning as required;

  • Complete regular work planning and reports as required;

  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:

  • Completion of a Bachelor degree (B. Ed is an asset, not a requirement) plus 2-3 years of professional program design experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with background in youth or education development an asset;

  • Experience or proven interest in international cooperation, non-profit, and humanitarian sector(s);

  • Demonstrated understanding of global citizenship and youth empowerment,;

  • Experience in proactively building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders integral to programme delivery success;

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, budget and manage a variety of tasks and activities simultaneously;

  • Strong event planning and delivery skills including workshop design, stakeholder engagement, venue and logistics, budget, content development and delivery, facilitation, communications and visibility;

  • Excellent organizational skills and experience with program planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, including Results Based Management;

  • Familiarity with the Saskatchewan curriculum and education system is considered an asset;

  • Experience working within a variety of cultural environments considered an asset;

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; including proficiency with Microsoft Suite;

  • Ability to be flexible and to work in relatively unstructured situations;

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision with multiple deadlines;

  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a member of a team.

Program & Office Associate
Summer Student Position - 8 weeks

Role Purpose

SCIC is looking for an ambitious and eager summer student who is looking to enhance their administrative skills as a Program & Office Associate, while working with an organization that builds momentum towards a more just and sustainable world. This summer position provides practical experience in office coordination, records and file management, light financial administration, inbox oversight, and program support.

Office Support & Digital File Administration (50%)

  • Assist with digital file organization;

  • Support content digitization, migration, and cataloging material;

  • Research grant opportunities to support business development;

  • Support reduction of office items no longer needed.

Program Support (25%)

  • Support coordinating logistics and registrations for SCICs public engagement events;

  • Assist with promotion and outreach to potential participants;

  • Keep track of registrants and their information/accessibility requirements;

  • Monitor data/survey collection from both participants and facilitators;

  • Support public engagement and capacity building events as needed;

  • Support any other public engagement activities as needed.

Membership & Engagement Support (25%)

  • Research the international development sector in Saskatchewan and develop a database of civil society organizations and private sector entities involved in global justice and the Sustainable Development Goals;

  • Research intersectional gender equality topics and compile resources and potential partners.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:

  • Requirements:

    • Age between 16 and 30 years at employment start

    • Current post-secondary student studying business administration, office administration, public administration, or a related field

  • Adaptability - The ability to achieve or adjust goals and behaviours when expected or unexpected change occurs, by planning, staying focused, persisting, and overcoming setbacks;

  • Collaboration - The ability to contribute and support others to achieve a common goal; 

  • Communication - The ability to receive, understand, consider, and share information and ideas through speaking, listening, and interacting with others;

  • Creativity and Innovation - The ability to imagine, develop, express, encourage, and apply ideas in ways that are novel, unexpected, or challenge existing methods and norms;

  • Digital Skills - The ability to use digital tools (including Google Workspace & Microsoft Office Suite) to find, manage, apply, create, and share information and content;

  • Problem-Solving - The ability to identify, analyze, propose solutions, and make decisions. Problem-solving helps you to address issues, monitor success, and learn from the experience.
