Today, as we recognize the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we are reminded that ending poverty in all its forms is not only possible but is essential for a just and sustainable world.

This year’s theme of “Ending social and institutional maltreatment by ensuring respect and effective support for families” highlights the importance of ensuring that every person can live with respect, access to opportunities, and can participate fully in society.

Poverty is not just about income – it’s about dangerous work conditions, unsafe housing, lack of nutritious food, unequal access to justice, lack of political power, limited access to health care and more.

At SCIC, we work alongside Saskatchewan organizations and global partners who are taking action on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially #SDG1: No Poverty, #SDG10: Reduced Inequalities, and #SDG17: Partnerships for the Goals. Together we can create systems that uplift rather than divide and ensure that no one is left behind.

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to reflect the ongoing impacts of colonization and the harm caused by policies that sought to erase Indigenous cultures and identities. 🧡

This day is a time to honor Indigenous Peoples and communities, to remember the children who never came home from residential schools, and to acknowledge the atrocities of the past and the systemic barriers that persist today.

At SCIC, reconciliation is more than a single day — it’s an ongoing commitment woven into our work every day. We are grateful to walk alongside our Indigenous partners and members who are leading powerful initiatives in truth, healing, and justice. Together, we are committed to listening, learning, and taking meaningful action to dismantle barriers and build relationships rooted in respect, understanding, and shared purpose.

Today is a reminder that reconciliation is a collective journey. By lifting up Indigenous voices and centring action, we can create a united path forward not just in words, but in practice.

Today our community came together for @ywcaregina Walk a Mile in Their Shoes – and wow, what an incredible day! ❤️👠

From bold red heels to brave conversations, every step taken today was a stand against gender-based violence. This is particularly important here as Saskatchewan has the highest rate of domestic violence in Canada. Half of Canadian women have experienced abuse, and Indigenous women are 6x more likely to be killed by an intimate partner than non-Indigenous women.

But together, we can change that!

SCIC Reading Circle for SK Educators Is Back This Fall! 📚🍂

Join us for three engaging virtual sessions featuring The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Young Readers Edition by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer.

Open to both in-service and pre-service educators, participants are expected to attend all three sessions and will receive a complimentary copy of the book along with related free resources. Together, we’ll dive into the book’s key themes and equip you with practical strategies you can bring to your classroom.

August 19 is World Humanitarian Day 🌍

A day to honour aid workers who risk their lives to help others, and to remember those who have lost their lives in service. Their sacrifices are not forgotten.

This year’s call is clear: #ActForHumanity.

When protection is denied and accountability is absent, our voices must fill the void. Aid workers bravely face danger, endure gunfire, and cross hostile borders, driven by a relentless commitment to bring compassion and care to those who need it most. They show up — so must we.

The 2025 theme of “Strengthening Global Solidarity & Empowering Local Communities”, reminds us that humanitarian action isn’t just global but it begins right here at home.

Here in Saskatchewan, we can answer this call by:
📣 Using our voice: Share, post, and speak out. Every tag & comment builds momentum.
⛑️ Funding the lifeline: Support local humanitarian and aid groups both global and here at home.

This year’s UN theme of “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond” celebrates how young people are making global change happen right in their own communities. From building greener neighbourhoods to championing inclusion, youth are leading the way toward an equitable & more sustainable future.

As UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres reminds us:
“Young people are bold innovators, resilient organisers, and essential partners in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”

We constantly witness that leadership on full display; from our recent Generating Momentum Youth Summit, to Saskatchewan youth stepping up and growing their non-profits, to youth advocates speaking truth to power throughout the province every single day.

Today, on International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we stand in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples everywhere. In Canada, we honour the vibrant culture, deep-rooted knowledge, and enduring resilience of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.

With more than 370–500 million Indigenous Peoples living across 90 countries, speaking 40% of the world’s ~7,000 languages and representing ~5,000 cultures (UNDP), we believe that true global development must embrace Indigenous leadership, recognize self-determination, and honor the rights and traditions that shape our future.

Today is not just a moment of recognition, but a call to build together. Let’s honour this day with deliberate action by:
