Youth Voices for Clean Water | City of Prince Albert x SCIC Water Stewardship Mural Project
–
Earlier this year, SCIC partnered with the City of Prince Albert’s Arts & Culture Division, local artist Cheryl Buckmaster, and Environmental Science students from École St. Mary High School on a youth-led clean water art project.

Through workshops and a tour of Prince Albert’s Water Treatment Plant, students explored water stewardship, sustainability, and global citizenship. They then created artwork expressing what clean water means to their land, community, and future.

Their ideas were brought together in an intricate mural, officially unveiled on March 6 and now permanently displayed inside the Water Treatment Plant.

This video follows the project from the students’ initial walk through the plant, to the conception of the artwork, to the mural’s installation and unveiling – sharing what the experience meant to the young people involved, as well as the partners who came together to make this project possible.

📣 Exciting Updates for Canada LIFTs funding!

Canadian small and medium organizations in the final year of GAC funding may now be eligible to apply for the Canada LIFTs Momentum and Together Funds.

The updated eligibility allows organizations to have up to a six month overlap between Global Affairs Canada and Canada LIFTs project funding.

Organizations anticipating an overlap of six months or less should take the first step by registering for a Fluxx account by:

It’s World Youth Skills Day and we are celebrating the creativity, leadership, and determination of young people everywhere! 🙌

For years, SCIC’s Generating Momentum Youth Summit, better known as GenMo, has brought young changemakers together to strengthen their skills in leadership, advocacy, community engagement, collaboration, and global citizenship.

You may have guessed from the lack of GenMo updates that, unfortunately, we will not be hosting the summit this summer. While GenMo will not take place in 2026, we are already looking ahead and are excited to welcome Saskatchewan’s young changemakers back in 2027! 🤩

Today, we celebrate every young person who is learning, speaking up, sharing their ideas, and building a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world.

A little cloud couldn’t dim the warmth of National Indigenous People’s Day in the park. 🧡

On Friday, the SCIC team joined community members in Regina to celebrate, listen, learn, and share space together. The park was full of life – stories, laughter, music, connection, and many moments that reminded us how lucky we are to gather on these lands.

#NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay is an important time to honour the histories, cultures, language, knowledge, and leadership of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. It is a crucial day for celebration but also reflection on the responsibilities we all share in reconciliation, respect, and building relationships rooted in care.

We are grateful to everyone who helped create such a welcoming and meaningful gathering, and to the community members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, artists, families, and friends who filled the day with heart.

Our team left feeling grounded and reminded that learning, solidarity, and community are things we carry with us far beyond one day. 🧡

Some of our SCIC team had the absolute joy of walking the Queen City Pride Parade this Saturday and wow – Regina really showed up with all the colour, care, and love in the world!

We loved walking alongside our community, cheering with strangers who felt like friends, and running into so many wonderful friends of SCIC along the way.

Those little “hey, we know you!” moments? The best!

Pride is a celebration, yes – but it is also a reminder. Equality, dignity, safety, and belonging should never be up for debate. Everyone deserves to move through the world fully, freely, and proudly as themselves.

On Friday two members of the SCIC team traveled to Watrous to attend RCE Saskatchewan's Education for Sustainable Development Awards in Watrous. This year SCIC had the honour of receiving three awards recognizing our commitment to sustainability, global citizenship, community engagement, and lifelong learning across Saskatchewan!

This year, SCIC was recognized for:

🏆 Youth Programming Award – Creative Pathways to Sustainable Communities

A youth-focused initiative that supports young people in exploring global issues, reflecting on their lived experiences, and using visual storytelling and symbolic artwork to share messages of care, responsibility, and collective action.

🏆 Education Programming Award – Global Citizenship Education Workshops

Free K-12 classroom workshops offered across Saskatchewan, helping students explore global issues, the UN SDGs, and their role as active global citizens.

🏆 Education Programming Award – Reading Circle for Saskatchewan Educators

A free professional development opportunity that brings educators together through books, resources, and meaningful conversations on global citizenship, sustainability, and the SDGs.

Story of Change - Krista Caspick-Roblin 🌱

What if one single opportunity could help you find your voice again and reignite your spark?

For Krista, #GenMo2025 youth boot camp became more than a leadership experience. It became a turning point.

After moving through loss, change, COVID, and becoming a new parent, Krista shared that she had lost a part of herself and stopped seeing her voice as something important.

GenMo helped change that.

Through connection, reflection, and meaningful conversations, Krista was reminded how truly valuable her voice is, and that she was still capable of creating change in her community and beyond!

Since then, Krista has carried that spark forward, advocating on Parliament Hill, speaking internationally on policies close to her heart, reconnecting with her Métis roots, and now working with VIDEA in support of global justice, gender equality, youth leadership, and international cooperation.

🌟Women’s History Month Spotlight🌟

Through our Women’s History Month spotlight series, we’ve had the honour of celebrating some truly incredible women in our community who are creating real, lasting change. To close out this month, we’re proud to spotlight Dr. Amber Fletcher, recipient of the this year’s Global Citizen Award for Lifetime Achievement 💛

A Professor at the University of Regina and Academic Director of the Community Engagement and Research Centre, Dr. Fletcher’s work sits at the intersection of climate change, gender equality, and social justice. Her research explores how experiences of climate hazards like flooding, drought, and wildfire are shaped by gender and inequality, bringing critical attention to the people and communities impacted.

Her influence extends far beyond Saskatchewan. Dr. Fletcher has worked with the United Nations to develop indicators for measuring gender inequality and regularly contributed to global conversations on climate and justice. She is also a contributing author to a 2019 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, helping shape international understanding of these urgent issues.

A recognized leader and advocate, Dr. Fletcher is a former President of the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women and has received numerous honours, including two Governor General’s medals, a Lieutenant Governor’s Postsecondary Teaching Award, and the King Charles III Coronation Medal for her contributions to Canada.

“Global citizenship means using every possible opportunity to advocate for the kind of world we should all want to live in.”

Dr. Fletcher’s work is a powerful reminder that research, advocacy, and education can drive meaningful, global change. We are so proud to celebrate her impact and leadership.

✨Women’s History Month Spotlight ✨

As we continue celebrating the incredible women in our community this Women’s History Month, we’re proud to spotlight Josephina Hovdestad, recipient of this year’s Emerging Global Citizen Award 💛

From a young age, Josephina has led with empathy and action. What began as a simple act of compassion, helping rescue a kitten on a freezing winter day, grew into a lifelong commitment to advocacy, care, and community. Raised in small-town Saskatchewan, she learned early on about the power of showing up for others and the importance of treating every person with dignity and respect.

After moving to Melfort, Josephina stepped boldly into leadership, becoming an active voice in youth advocacy through organizations like Melfort Youth Evolution and Youth4Change. Her work alongside other young leaders helped push forward stronger tobacco and vapour product regulations, directly contributing to the introduction of Bill 147 in Saskatchewan!

Driven by her own lived experiences, Josephina is also a passionate mental health advocate, working to ensure support is accessible to all in need. Looking ahead, she is committed to breaking down systemic barriers for women and Indigenous Peoples in STEM, while empowering young girls to view their voices and ambitions as powerful forces for change.

“To be a global citizen is to care deeply about the world and the people within it, recognizing that our actions have impacts beyond what is immediately around us.”

Josephina represents the strength, resilience, and leadership of the next generation. We are so proud to celebrate her and the impact she is already making!

🤩 Women’s History Month Spotlight 🤩

This March, we’re celebrating the incredible women in our community who are creating real, lasting change. We want to take this opportunity to highlight this year’s three Global Citizen Awards winners, all women making an impact here in Saskatchewan and all over the world. First up, we want to spotlight Isabella Grajczyk, recipient of the Youth Global Citizen Award at our February Gala 💛

From Moose Jaw to communities across the province, Isabella is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Sask Girls United, a nonprofit empowering girls and gender-diverse youth through free, accessible programming focused on leadership, confidence, mental health, and self-expression.

Through her work, she has already reached over 100 communities and more than 1,400 youth across Saskatchewan!

Her impact doesn’t stop there. Isabella is currently completing her MA in Political Science at McGill University, specializing in Gender and Development with research grounded in real-world experience from Rwanda to Tanzania. Whether supporting women entrepreneurs or amplifying youth voices here at home, her work is rooted in community, equity, and lived experience.

“To me, global citizenship means recognizing that our lives are interconnected across borders and that we have a shared responsibility to care for one another.” ❤️

Isabella is a powerful example of what it means to lead with purpose, compassion, and courage. We are so proud to celebrate her and the impact she continues to make.

RaiseHER Community — founded by two mother-daughter duos based in Regina, Skylar Gerard and Gwen Keith, and Talitha McCloskey and Marlene Smadu — is an intergenerational movement building bold leadership in women and girls through connection, mentorship, and community-powered change.
