PhotoVoice

Stories are powerful: they weave people and experiences together and shape how we see the world. Knowing the impact and value of a well-told story, SCIC’s PhotoVoices Program empowers youth to share the narratives they want to tell through photos.

Photovoice is a creative, participatory method that empowers people to share their perspectives through photography and storytelling. Participants use cameras to capture images that reflect their lived experiences, challenges, and hopes, pairing them with personal narratives that bring the images to life. This process sparks dialogue, builds understanding across communities, and inspires action on issues that matter. When used to explore the Sustainable Development Goals, Photovoice helps people document real moments, places, and people that show how the SDGs are unfolding where they live. By putting the lens in the hands of community members, Photovoice shifts the narrative from “about” to “by” turning everyday perspectives into powerful tools for awareness, connection, and change.
