Still today, one in three women is a victim of physical or sexual violence. Men have long been considered part of the problem, rather than an integral part of the solution to the elimination of violence against women. Yet, there is a great deal of research that suggests that when men are included in interventions, men can effectively contribute to reducing gender inequality.
This webinar will present the work of AQOCI’s Gender in Practice community on masculinities and the integration of this approach in the Centre for International Studies and Cooperation’s (CECI) programming, particularly in Rwanda.
Four presenters will speak with us:
- Anne Delorme, Coordinator of the Quebec Women and Development Committee (CQFD) of AQOCI and coordinator of the Gender in Practice community of practice.
- Suzanne Dumouchel, CECI project officer. Suzanne developed and managed a diversity of projects in different fields, largely focused on civil society and women’s rights for over 25 years.
- Edouard Munyamaliza, Executive Secretary of Rwanda Men’s Resource Centre (RWAMREC), founded in 2006 by a group of Rwandan men who wanted to involve men in tackling questions of gender equality and to support a ‘positive’ masculinity.
- Francine Rutazana, consultant for the Fight Against Violence Against Women and Girls in the Great Lakes Region project (PLUVIF) team for Rwanda.
