International Women's Day 2020

International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all around the world. The day also marks a call to action to the world, for accelerating women's equality! International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively around the world. IWD is not solely country, group or organization specific, it's an initiative for equality.

This year IWD will take place on Sunday, March 8th, 2020. Learn about IWD on their website, and check out below how SCIC is getting involved with the campaign!

What is the Global Campaign Theme?

From the official IWD website, this year's theme for International Women's Day campaign is #EachforEqual. An equal world is an enabled world, where individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day. With this responsibility, we can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender-equal world.

Furthermore, equality is not a women's issue, it's a business issue and gender equality is essential for economies and communities to thrive. A gender-equal world can be healthier, wealthier and more harmonious - so what's not great about that? The race is on for the gender-equal boardroom, a gender-equal government, gender-equal media coverage, gender-equal workplaces, gender-equal sports coverage, more gender equality in health and wealth - so let's make it happen. Let's be #EachforEqual.
